Green Thumb 2On November 1 our program is “Waterwise Landscaping with Native Plants in Coastal Georgia”. The guest speaker is Keren Giovengo, Program Manager of UGA EcoScapes.

EcoScapes is the name given to a program designed by the University of Georgia Extension Services to demonstrate and advocate responsible stewardship of natural resources and to protect healthy ecosystems.  Water resources, native plants, habitats and wildlife are critical elements used in nurturing and preserving the complexities of our coastal Georgia and its watersheds. Ecoscapes strives to reach a goal of helping Georgia communities identify and promote a sustainable balance between natural resource conservation and necessary economic growth.  Through education, outreach, technical assistance, research tools and innovative sustainability methods, Ecoscapes has empowered and recognized Georgia communities, businesses and citizens.

Please join us to learn from Keren many more details about this fascinating and important project. We will meet at the Messiah Lutheran Church at 9:30 am for coffee and sweets, have brief club announcements at 10 am followed by our program, which concludes at 11:30 am. Dues are $25/individual or $30/family.

Green Thumb meets the 1st Wednesday of the month, Oct – Apr., at Messiah Lutheran Church.  Guests are always welcome for a $5 fee.  For more information, contact Betty Stout (598.9693 or etstout456@aol.com ) or Kristina Svenson (598.9470 or akekris@bellsouth.net ).
