Second Harvest Packing. Established in 1981 in Savannah, America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia is a locally inspired, volunteer driven nonfrofit food bank and community partnering organization. Second Harvest serves as the food safety net for tens of thousands of children, senior citizens, low-income families, and people with disabilities who are at risk of hunger throughout Southern Georgia. Four times a year, Landlovers Community Service gets together on a Friday morning to provide the volunteer labor to pack boxes for needy families at our local food bank. No skill is required, just a caring heart. We’d particularly like to encourage any men who have time to join us. Our packing dates for 2018-19 will be the following Fridays: January 25, March 22 and May 24. Signups for the November packing date start immediately until the meeting date. All are welcome, but participants must be members of Landlovers. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions or contact Rebecca Walling (908.229.1835.)
Ronald McDonald Meals: A group of Landings residents, called Skidaway Servers, has taken on the responsibility of providing a meal for 30. Their goal is to provide meals for The Ronald McDonald House every Friday during the year. Usually 3 couples per week provide the meal and then go out to dinner afterwards. If you are interested in participating, please contact Mary Smith at email@example.com.
Cooking for Charity. Like to cook? Want to help others at the same time? Come spend the morning with fellow Landlovers to assemble casseroles for Safe Shelter on Thursday, October 25. This will give the cooks at Safe Shelter a night off. No cost involved, but limited space. We may also need some volunteers to do some cooking the day before so let us know if you’d like to help with that. If you can’t help on October 25, but would like to participate in a future date, please let us know your interest. If interested email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Sue Souls at 713.502.6094 or Carol Stiles at 349.9977.
Share your vacation with those at Safe Shelter. Are you traveling this summer and staying at a hotel? If you have any unused hotel soaps, shampoos or lotions, please bring them back to Savannah. The families at Safe Shelter often arrive with only the clothes on their back and are in need of all basic toiletries. Landlovers Community Service will collect these personal sized items several times a year to donate to Safe Shelter. Our next collection dates will be November 24-December 1 and January 3-10. Drop off will be at the Landings Welcome Center (i.c. the real estate company) at 1 Landings Way North. If you have any questions, contact email@example.com or contact Carol Stiles at 349.9977 or Sue Souls at 713.502.6094.
