106
President
Shirley McCarthy (598.2166)

Shirley and her husband Frank arrived at The Landings six years ago, after living in Honolulu for many years.  She’s been active in Landlovers since arriving, working the Flea Market, Gourmet Pantry and Board positions. Landlovers has a variety of socials and several activities to enjoy and meet new friends.  The big appeal to Shirley is the fund raising and being able to give back to this great community, whether it’s Grants, Scholarships or Community Service Merit Awards.

107
Vice President
Sheila Grossman (598.9162)

Sheila spent the first 25 years of her life in New York and then started moving, living in Pennsylvania, California, Connecticut and Indiana before settling, with her husband Marty, in Savannah.  She was looking for a place to live where it would be easy to meet people and get involved and feels they found the perfect community here.  Sheila believes that Landlovers is the quintessential Landings organization, combining activities and socials with fundraising and philanthropy.

108
Secretary
Pat James (598.7423)

Pat and her husband Scott moved to The Landings 5 years ago after spending 30 years in Pelham, NY, just 30 minutes from Grand Central Station.  The main appeal of The Landings at the beginning was the 6 golf courses and the island’s wealth of natural beauty.  Once here Pat discovered the welcoming community of residents. Landlovers has enabled her to meet new friends, have fun and give back to the community.  She often goes back to New York to visit her children and two grandsons, but is always thrilled to see the western marsh and the bridge to Skidaway that means she is back home.

113
Treasurer
Joy Howard (598.9505)

Joy could be the happiest person at The Landings.  She and her husband, Pat, were stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in the mid-70s and always hoped to return to Savannah.  After 20 years back home in middle Tennessee, 4 years in Cincinnati and 8 (very snowy) years in western Massachusetts, they made it back here in 2009.  She enjoys her involvement with Landlovers and their philanthropic endeavors help satisfy a need to do something worthwhile, while having a really good time with a lot of really nice people.

DIRECTORS & CHAIRS

Membership Director
Kathy Kadish (598.3988)

Kathy and her husband Alan moved to Savannah about 5 years ago.  One of the reasons they chose The Landings was the sense of community and the opportunities to make new friends.  Landlovers quickly became one of those opportunities when Kathy joined with some fellow New Neighbors and co-chaired the Landlovers Flea Market.  This eventually led to her becoming part of the board, where she continues to meet new people and make new friends.

116
Communications Director
Allison Smith (335.2453)

Allison and her husband Bob moved to The Landings from upstate New York at the end of 2007 and both would characterize the past four years as the happiest of their lives.  Never one to sit still, Allison jumped right in and got involved with New Neighbors, co-chairing Gourmet and then serving on the board for two years as webmaster.  She is also an active member of the Telfair Academy Guild, having served on the board and as a member of The Artful Table Committee.  While she partakes in many of the activities available here- tennis, mah jongg, bridge, garden club, book club, walking, biking, golf, and the fitness center- her greatest pleasure is enjoying the company of the many wonderful friends they have made on Skidaway Island.

118
Activity Director
Kathy Von Hollen (598.3472)

Kathy, residing in Florida, and Dirke, living in Savannah, met in 2004 and enjoyed a two-year romance before marrying in the small chapel of Christ Episcopal Church on Johnson Square.  Soon they moved to The Landings to begin their new life.  For Kathy, finding a wonderful man to love and being a part of this amazing community were gifts long awaited.  Kathy served Christ Church as Special Events Chair for the annual Savannah Tour of Homes and also served as the Volunteer Coordinator for Savannah Habitat for Humanity.  At The Landings, Kathy has chaired numerous New Neighbors committees and served on their Board.  She also chaired several Landlovers committees and now enjoys serving on the Board.  Dirke and Kathy work together as independent Health Insurance Brokers, finding it meaningful to help their clients with medical, Medicare, and long-term care planning. They enjoy cooking, golfing, biking, hiking, spending time with friends and family, and for Dirke, all things sports.

121
Social Director
Susan Istwan (598.8905)

Susan and her husband John, stumbled upon The Landings 4 ½ years ago, having lived in Chicago most of their lives.  After designing & building their house in Moon River (yes, Moon River is in The Landings), Susan started volunteering for assorted Landlovers activities.  More important, she enlisted her husband to volunteer for the Flea Market.  Landlovers has been a great organization to not only meet some very nice people but to give back to a unique and wonderful community.

Ways and Means Director
Joan Sedberry (598.0903)

Joan and her husband, George, moved to The Landings in 2007 from Charleston, SC for George's new job as Superintendent of Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary.  Having just retired from 36 years of teaching, Joan took this opportunity to get involved with Landlovers and spent three years selling their T-shirts and hats and visors.  This year she decided to take a more active role by joining the Board as Ways and Means co-chair and Auctionmania co-chair with Judy Sweeterman.  She feels that this is a good way to contribute to the community here on Skidaway.

124
Ways and Means Director
Judy Sweeterman (598.9037)

Judy and her husband, David, came to The Landings 6 years ago, after 31 years in Wisconsin.  After exploring the eastern seaboard for a place to retire, they knew that The Landings was the best of the lot.  Judy has been active in Landlovers for the last several years, serving as Social chair, working in the flea market, and now overseeing with co-chair, Joan Sedberry, the Ways & Means position.  Participating in Landlovers has been a wonderful way to meet the women of The Landings, and engage in fundraising for a wide variety of organizations.
